Kamloops and District Fish and Game Association Trophy Award Rules

(Approved June 10 2010)  

Trophy Award Objectives:

a.      To define the awards and rules for entries to the annual club fishing and hunting.

b.      To reward and encourage club members in their hunting and fishing endeavours.

c.      To encourage ethical hunting and fishing within the Provincial regulations.

d.      To recognize truly outstanding trophy animals taken by club members.

e.      To recognize and encourage entries by Junior and women members.

 

HUNTING AWARDS

         24.  Best Upland Game Bird by a Junior (Blue grouse, ruffed grouse, pheasant, Chuckar, etc.)

        25.  Best Migratory Game Bird by a Junior (for example: Mallard, pintail, Canada Goose, Snow Goose etc.)

a.       Best weight entry by a male 

b.    Best weight entry by a female

Rules:

 

A.     Any entry can only win one (1) of the above awards.

B.     One entrant is limited to receiving a max of three (3) of the above awards but may enter more than three categories.  In special circumstances and at the discretion of the trophy committee a fourth award may be considered.

C.     All entries must be taken in British Columbia during the current hunting season except for the one “Out of Province” entry and “potentially” the most unusual entry.

D.     All entries must be taken in “Fair” chase as per the current BC Hunting regulations including L.E.H. allocations.

E.      Entrants must be a member of the Kamloops and District Fish and Game Association prior to the opening day for any species entered.

F.      All entries must be presented to the trophy committee on or before the annual club scoring day as published in the club newsletter.

G.     All entries must be identified with the entrants name, phone number, address, resident hunter number and species licence number.

H.     All entries (skulls, antlers, horns and hides) must have all flesh removed or they will not be considered for entry.  All entries must be in a natural state and not tampered with in any matter.

I.        Entries taken with a rifle will be scored using the Boone and Crockett scoring system.

J.       Entries taken with a bow will be scored using the Pope and Young scoring system.  The “Club” definition of a bow includes: long bow, recurve bow, compound Bow and the crossbow.

K.     The most recent edition of the “Big Game Records of British Columbia” number 1 ranking for any species will be used when ranking the “Hunting Trophy” selections.

L.      Trophy committee members shall have the authority to temporarily mark all entries to assist in the scoring process.

M.    All entries must be available for display at the annual trophy smorgasbord or awards night.   A photograph of the animal is desirable to accompany the display.

N.     The “Trophy Committee” will have the final decision on all awards.

O.     Juniors are defined as males or females eighteen (18) years or younger on the date the entry was taken (on one’s nineteen birthday they are no longer a junior).  Juniors are eligible to win any of the award categories or sub-categories listed above as well as the Hunting Trophies.

 

HUNTING TROPHIES

 

The following special Trophies are awarded for “Outstanding Entries” taken in the current year.  These trophies have a “Perpetual” club trophy as well as a “Keeper” trophy for the successful entrant.  These trophies are separate from the hunting awards listed above.  Some or all of these trophies may not be awarded each year.

 

1.       Best Big Game entry by a Junior

2.       Best Big Game entry by a Woman

3.       Biggest Ram Award - Highest ranking sheep of any species

4.       Keys Award - Presented for a truly outstanding trophy animal ranking well up in the “Big Game Records of British Columbia”.

5.       Wildlife Taxidermy Award - Presented for the best trophy entered by a club member (second to the Keys Award).

 

FISHING AWARDS

5.       Salmon (Saltwater or Freshwater) 2 categories (1 for a lure 1 for a fly)

a.       Heaviest Salmon– Men’s 2 categories (1 for a lure 1 for a fly)

b.      Heaviest Salmon– Women’s 2 categories (1 for a lure 1 for a fly)

c.       Heaviest Salmon– Junior Female 2 categories (1 for a lure 1 for a fly)

d.      Heaviest Salmon– Junior Male 2 categories (1 for a lure 1 for a fly)

 

 

Rules:

 

A.     All entries must be caught in public waters of B.C. by accepted angling methods in accordance with the current Provincial and Federal regulations.

B.     All fish must be weighed on an accurate and reliable scale and confirmed by an adult witness.

C.     If a measurement system (Sturdy’s Table) is used, the measurements (length and girth) must be confirmed by an adult or a picture of the fish provided.

D.     Entrants must be a member of the Kamloops and District Fish and Game Association at the time of catch.

E.       All awards will be made at the annual Smorgasbord and Awards banquet.

F.       All decisions of the trophy committee are final.

G.      Each entry is eligible for only one award and a limit of 3 awards for the fish entries.

H.      Entries to include location of catch ( Lake , stream or coastal region) and license numbers.

I.         All entries must be in by a date set each year by the trophy committee chair.

J.       Ice fishing or open water fishing entries are both eligible for Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout entries.

K.     Juniors are defined as males or females eighteen (18) years or younger on the date the entry was taken (on one’s nineteen birthday they are no longer a junior).

L.      Fish entry forms are available periodically in the club newsletter or on the club website www.kdfga.ca.

Trophy rules where voted on at the June 10, 2010 general meeting and approved at that time.

The trophy known as the hat trick trophy was deleted at this time and will be replaced

By 2 trophies , The BEST ENTRY BY A JUNIOR and the BEST ENTRY BY A WOMEN
