PAL renewal all by phone and mail (not using any devices)

To get the paper forms sent to you

Have your PAL number and expiration date handy, and be able to enter these via the keypad on your phone. Know where the "pound sign" is.

Phone  1-800-731-4000  extension 8870 .

You will be talking to a machine, not a person. Choose the option "send the PAL renewal forms by mail".

You will be asked to enter the 8 digit PAL number followed by the pound key.

You will be asked to enter the expiry date in the format    yyyy/mm/dd    followed by the pound key.

If all goes well, you will get a messge "youp PAL application should be in your hands in 2 weeks"

In the meantime, go to London Drugs or Staples and get a passport photo taken.

They will give you 2 copies. One should have the date stamp.

When the forms arrive in the mail, there should be 4 pages of instructions and a 3 page form.

Read the instructions. Fill in the form. Sign and date. There is space for your spouse to give information and sign and date. If they don't sign the RCMP will contact them.

For the photo, see the directions on page 3 of the instructions. To the right of their sample picture there is a box with a  "scissor" symbol. Cut out the box shape, sign on the line and tape it to the back of the dated picture without covering the date.

Include payment. See page 2 of the instructions.

Return the form and the photo and the payment to the address shown.

Apparently this can take up to 60 days, If it takes longer phone the RCMP at the above number and ask for progress.

Please let Phil know if these directions need to be fixed
