Burrowing owl nests

Club members have dug many new nests in the Knutsford and Lac du Bois grasslands for the burrowing owls being raised at the British Columbia Wildlife Park. The finished nest has a 2 meter long Big O pipe leading into the nest, which is made from a pair of 20 liter pails. The nest can be easily cleaned. The entry is surrounded be few large rocks for the owls to perch on, and to keep animals from bothering them. Please do not disturb these nests. Stay back from the nest about 20 meters and watch. In the spring the owls and some food are placed in the nest. The opening is then blocked for a few days to allow the owls to become comfortable in their new home.
